DSL vs. Cable Information

Cable Internet Line basically a dedicated line used to access the internet with high speed and provides the faster internet access as compare to DSL and dial-up. Its data transmission speed is start from 64 Kbps to 30 Mbps. But DSL also provides high speed on already exiting telephone lines and same time you can use internet and as well as your line for phone. In DSL, both ends of connections require the network cards and DSL modems for data communication.
There are some advantages and disadvantages of both technologies. There are many factors that you should consider when going to decide to get DSL connection or Cable Internet like connection speed, security, installation fees and monthly rates. But this is very rare chance both services are available in your area. The cable provider in my area might be different from yours, hopefully these tips will help you understand what to look for.

Consider a little comparison between DSL and cable that will help you to choose more suitable internet connection in your area.
  DSL Internet Connection
  • Its data transmission speed start from 128 Kbps up to 10 Mbps.
  • DSL is dedicated connection not shared with other internet user.
  • DSL monthly rates are between 50$ to 100$.
  • Your internet speed will depends upon the distance between your home to DSL provider.
Cable Internet Connection
  • Its data transmission speed is start from 64 Kbps to 30Mbps.
  • Cable internet is not a dedicated connection but shared with other internet user.
  • Cable monthly rates are between 30$ to 60$.
  • No distance matter with Cable connection between your home to Cable provider.

What is WiMAX Wireless Broadband

WiMAX stands for World Interoperability for Microwave Access that enables the actual broadband wireless network with high speed. WiMAX operate same like WiFi but WiFi operate with some limitation like it is base band technology and cover only 100 feet radius with slow speed. WiMAX covers a radius of 50 Km and work with the speed of 70 Mbps. WiMAX is the replacement of the wired broadband. In wired broadband connection, we can transmit data with 512 Kbps to 10 Mbps speed and more, for example DSL broadband and cable broadband. In future all new desktop and notebook computers will be incorporated with WiMAX technology. With this technology you will be connected to the internet even you are driving your car with the speed of 120 Km.
Objective of WiMAX
  • Superior Performance
  • Flexibility
  • Advanced IP-Based Architecture
  • Attractive Economics
 IEEE 802.16 Specifications
  • Range 30 mile radius from the base station for LOS (line-of-sight).
  • Range 4-6 miles radius from the base station for NLOS (Non-line-of-sight)
  • Maximum data speed supported as 70 Mbps.
  • Licensed frequency band: 2- 11 GHz
  • Un-licensed frequency band: 10- 66 GHz
  • Line of sight is not needed between user and the base station unless very high date rates are required at the user premises.

The much-trumpeted digitalisation of Cable TV services in four metros will now have to wait for four months beyond July 1, when it was originally scheduled to be introduced.http://img.mymobile.co.in/2012/06/Dish.jpg

The decision to defer the plan for switchover from analogue to digitalised signals was announced by the government on Wednesday as it was found that the metros of Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata were not ready for it.

"The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has decided to modify the 30th June deadline for a complete switch over to 31st October 2012," a statement issued by the I&B ministry today said.

"All the TRAI regulations for Digital Addressable System will come into effect from 1st November, 2012," the statement added.

It said that the assessment of ground realities, compelled the Ministry of I&B to set a new deadline which would now be monitored more vigorously.

Digitalisation of the cable services in the entire country by December 2014 is one of the ambitious tasks that the I&B ministry has set for itself and the first step towards achieving this goal was its implementation in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai by June 30.

Installing Set Top Boxes (STBs) in each cable viewing household is a precondition for Digitalisation and as per official sources even a fortnight before the June 30, it was estimated that only 30 per cent of households had acquired STBs.

"The seeding of STBs in cable viewing households was not satisfactory so a new deadline has been set. The state governments involved had sought an extension of six months till December 31st. However we have agreed to a postponement of deadline till November 30 and this time we plan to monitor it very strictly," a senior official told PTI.

Internet Now With More Room To Grow IPv6

You've heard about it for years, and now it's real: IPv6. What is it? Well, to the average person, the shift doesn't mean much. You can certainly continue on with your day without fretting over this, and everything will be just fine. But for those who really want to know, you'll be interested in understanding how the new Internet Standard works. Starting this week, IPv6 will enable the web to grow, allowing the global network to have "more room" than before. The switch already happened, with Internet operators transitioned to a new standard called IPv6 that allows for trillions of "IP" numbers or addresses, up from the current 4.3 billion.

The AFP managed to get a few quotes that do a solid job of explaining what's going on: "To ensure the Internet can continue to grow and connect billions more people and devices around the world, thousands of companies and millions of websites have now permanently enabled the next generation of Internet Protocol (IPv6) for their products and services," the Internet Society, an advisory panel, said.

"Participants in World IPv6 Launch include the four most visited websites in the world -- Google, Facebook, YouTube, and Yahoo! -- as well as home router manufacturers and Internet Service Providers in more than 100 countries. By making IPv6 the 'new normal,' these companies are enabling millions of end users to enjoy its benefits without having to do anything themselves."

It's wild that the Internet now serves some 2.5 billion people and 11 billion devices around the globe, and IPv6 is a move made to avoid "running out room." Will there be hiccups? Perhaps, but we've learned a lot since the Y2K days.

4G In India soon

Mukesh Ambani’s next big idea — rollout of commoditised fourth-generation 4G telecom services across the country — is taking concrete shape.

After announcing last month that Nagpur would be a hub for its 4G operations, trials are set to begin for services at Reliance Industries’ (RIL) massive complex in Jamnagar next month, in a pilot before the project is escalated nationwide.

An RIL spokesperson refused to comment.

The megacorp is expected to begin rolling out services using the ultra-fast Long Term Evolution or LTE technology.

The company is roping in equipment vendors such as Huawei (which holds 50% of the world’s market share for LTE equipment), ZTE and Alcatel Lucent for network rollout and consumer devices.

Meanwhile, experts said the government may find it difficult to pull off 4G auctions in the next fiscal.

NK Goyal, president, Communications Multimedia And Infrastructure Association of India (CMAI) said 2G auctions are expected to be announced by December and completed by March 2013.

“So 4G auctions are expected to be announced in January and completed in another six months.”

What is internet

The internet is an interconnection of several computers of different types belonging to various networks all over the world. It is often referred to as a network of all networks.

The actual start of the internet can be traced back to 1969, when the U.S. DoD commissioned the APRANET to research networking. "Nodes" or hosts were setup at four locations in the U.S. : University of California at Lo Angeles (UCLA), Stanford Research Institute (SRI), UCSB and the University of Utah. The first node-to-node message was sent in October 1969 between UCLA and SRI.
http://singularmagazine.info/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/net.jpg
The internet is a giant network of computers, connected to each other globally. The primary structure of the internet is formed by a series of web servers that are run by certain companies such as Google, Yahoo, Microsoft, AOL, etc. These web servers have websites on them, which they offer for display over the internet. These servers are connected to each other over something called the Internet Backbone, which is the main physical line that runs across the world, linking servers globally. These servers may also be interconnected to each other through networks. Internet Service Providers, or ISPs may be part of these servers, or they may have their own independent servers, offering connectivity to the internet to users. End-users finally connect to the ISPs, thus enabling them to access websites or other computers all over the world through these ISPs' servers.

How it works is simple. When a user requests for a website by typing in a URL in his/her web browser, the request is sent to the ISP, which maintains a Domain Name Service (DNS) server, which can translate the text-based address (such as www.google.com) into the corresponding IP address of the server where the site is located. This request is then sent forward over the internet until it reaches its destination. Similarly, the server responds with a response that is sent backwards over the internet until it reaches the user's computer, and is then displayed on his/her browser.

What is DSL Internet?

DSL is Digital Subscriber Line. Both broadband and cable connections use this line to transmit information. A little history: previously phone lines and internet lines were separate. DSL technology now allows both the information to be transmitted along the same copper wire. The two types (voice and data) are just coded differently, which allows the separation.
DSL line use your existing phone lines but you will need to install a filter for all phones inside your house for them to work once your DSL is activated. DSL is also high speed broadband.

Cable is using your existing cable tv line for internet connection but this line is shared with other people in your neighbor.Alternative there are offers of cable companies using your cable tv connection offering broadband internet.
