Which VAIO would we recommend and why

Labor Day is over and there’s no question it marks the end of summer. The sky darkens quicker, the weather is cooler and school bells are ringing again.
Some people are prepared. Backpacks are loaded up and pencil stacks line the hall closet.  For others, it’s more of a last minute deal snatching up the essentials days before and filling in the rest slowly. Hey, I don’t judge. Both approaches have their benefits.
For school or home, if you’re in the market for a laptop and are considering a VAIO, first – thanks for thinking of us. I mean that. You have a lot of choices out there and we appreciate you checking us out. Often we get the question, “what computer would you pick?” The answer is always “it depends” and it really does. Honest to goodness. Here’s our best take at tackling the question.
For Gaming

If someone asked us for a gaming computer, the VAIO F series would immediately come up. The F series is built for quickness and multi-media. It sports the new Intel Turbo Boost technology13, along with an Intel Quad Core i7 processor – meaning very fast. The F series can be custom built so gamers can opt for the powerful NVIDIA GeForce GT graphics card (330M GPU). This card is designed to optimize laptop gaming and plays at high resolutions and fluid frame rates. This card also includes their PhysX technology which enables hyper-realistic game play. The F series has a full HD 16.4” Widescreen display (measured diagonally; 1600X900 or 1920X1080 Full HD resolution)
For viewing photos & videos and basic editing

First if you’re a graphic designer, the F series is also a system to check out. If you’re a person that frequently views photos & videos online or who does some basic photo editing, the VAIO EA is a nice option. The EA can be customized and includes dedicated graphics courtesy of ATI Mobility Radeon with up to 512 MB3 of VRAM on select models.  For a limited time, select EA models sold at Sony Style also come preloaded with an extra Adobe software bundle that includes Photoshop® Elements 8.0, Premiere® Elements 8 and Acrobat Standard 9.0 (a $448 value). For internet video fans, the EA series offers up to 512MB dedicated video RAM with an optional optical Blu-ray drive. It has Intel® High Definition Audio with a 14” widescreen display (measured diagonally).
For something basic

My mother-in-law has asked me this before. Sometimes you need a computer that’s fast and easy to use but at the same time may not need extras that gamers or media buffs may need. In this case, we’d recommend the VAIO EB series. It’s large color range makes it extremely personal, and it can be configured to include a Blu-ray disc drive and an Intel Core i5 processor meaning its fast for all the basic use cases. Laptop Magazine liked this one too as they awarded the EB series as a “top back to school” notebook. Other affordable options can be found on our Sony Outlet for refurbished models. All refurbished products and accessories in the Outlet are restored and tested by Sony.
For a Sony geeked out computer

Our flagship model for our Sony fans out there would be the VAIO Z series. And for the executives out there who need powerful computing on the go, this is a laptop to look into. First performance: The Z is customizable with processor options up to a2.66GHz Intel® Core™ i7-620M processor with up to 3.33GHz using Intel® Turbo Boost Technology4. It offers up to 4MB L3 Cache. In storage it offers up to a 512GB (256GBx2) Solid State Drive with RAID 0 technology available and up to 8GB DDR3 SDRAM-1066.The Z was designed to be massively mobile. In addition to the built in GPS technology,  it’s encased in multi-layered carbon fiber, has a scratch-resistant LCD panel, durable solid state drive and a seamless aluminum keyboard panel. It has an LED-backlit 13.1″ screen with available Full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution, along with 100% color saturation.
When it comes to buying, I always recommend doing your homework. Customer reviews are always helpful and you can find many on sites like  CNet and SonyStyle.com.

So which VAIO would you recommend and why….and maybe score a free VAIO sleeve in the process.

I’ve got 20 VAIO sleeves (designed to fit notebooks with an LCD size of 15.5(diag.) and under) so the first 20 people to post a comment in this post telling me which VAIO computer currently offered on SonyStyle.com you would recommend and why will get a sleeve sent their way.
Be sure that when you post your comment, you enter your real email address in the email field below (not in the comment area). Without a valid email address in that field, I won’t be able to reach you!

New Custom Built VAIO S Launches on Sony Style

VAIO S Just when you thought the CES fun was coming to an end…The VAIO S isn’t a new laptop per se but the announcement of a custom built option is certainly welcomed. This little mobile machine originally launched in Spring of last year and is a lightweight option for a road warrior or a business traveler. All VAIO S models (be it pre-built or custom built) have 13.3 inch displays. The computer is about 1” thick and weighs just over 4 pounds. So again. Pretty light.
In terms of custom options, you can get up to a Ci5-580M processor, up to 256GB SSD*  and include up to 8GB RAM. One of the popular features on select VAIO PCs is the backlit keyboard which is available on the S. There’s also options for a Blu-ray® disc writeable drive, Windows 7 Professional and NVIDIA® GeForce® graphics card with 512MB of VRAM.

If you select an Intel graphic option, then that makes your system WiDi compatible meaning you can wirelessly stream your PC content to an HDTV**.The S comes with a magnesium casing and G-Sensor™ Shock Protection technology which helps protect your laptop against the daily bumps we tend to put our computers through (now if only it had technology against little chocolate covered fingers, we’d all be in heaven).

Plus to keep things fun, the Sony Style team is offering a free upgrade to Ci5 processor with custom built models that add Windows Professional.
Now if you’re looking for a pre-built version, models purchased at SonyStyle.com all S series models come with an extended battery.

The VAIO S comes in Black and Silver though Sony Style just added the VAIO S laptop to its Signature line. Signature models launched in (2) limited edition colors of wavy black and wavy white. Signature models also come with 512MB dedicated NVIDIA GeForce 310 graphics.
Custom VAIO S models start from $874.99.

VAIO Refreshes Line for Winter Season

fallseason
It’s not just new winter coats you’re seeing this fall hit store shelves. Today, the Sony VAIO® division has released a variety of updated models in preparation of this holiday season. Available today on SonyStyle.com, this fall’s update reveals not only new CPU options but a few other enhancements.
Here’s the latest and greatest to share…
New Options for VAIO EB/EA/EC Series laptops:

Over the last 6 months, the VAIO E series have been continuing to impress with the launch of a variety of color options, screen sizes and colorized accessories. Last week you saw the VAIO E Series deliver with the return of the extremely popular and requested purple model option. Formally called “Passion Purple, we’ve already seen a lot of props from our fans on Facebook. Once again the VAIO EB/EA/EC series made its mark in our latest round of announcements by providing new CPU options.
Now the pre-built and customized models include the just released Intel® CPUs , the Ci5-580 and Ci5-460M,for those looking for more performance, and also a new Pentium™ processor for those looking for an even more affordable option. Another new addition is the option of 1GB graphics card for EA and EB (EC already had it), which is something we’ve heard several requests for. Additionally the EB/EC models also have added full HD display options for the first time. Oh and if you didn’t already draw a giant heart in your binder with “VAIO E series” inside, the Sony Style team is offering a free full HD upgrade on all brand new customized EB & EC laptops (while supplies last and offer ends on 10/9/10)
Return of the Blu-ray Disc Reader/Writer Drive to the L Series:

When the series was first introduced in October 2009, it included the options for a Blu-ray Reader and writer optical drive. Quickly selling out, the team has been championing its return based on your feedback and now it’s here. Today’s release includes a new VAIO L All-in-One touch screen computer which not only includes this Blu-ray option but also includes a massive 2 Terabyte hard drive for super storage along with Quad Core™ processing, TV tuner and other options that make me ever-so-jealous of the people now snagging this model.
New for VAIO F series:

New graphics card – NVIDIA ® GeForce GT 425M graphics card with 1GB of video RAM, an upgrade from the 330M predecessor. Great for gaming of course. Also the new F series has a USB 3.0 port, the latest USB data transfer technology which means super fast file transfers from your external hard drive or digital camera.
Now the question on everyone’s mind (by reading the comments on your older signature collection posts) is will we be announcing another Signature Collection? The answer is 100% yes and I can tell you that it is coming next month. As the Signature Collection is known for either releasing uber models or models with unique and sophisticated designs, next month’s announcement will no exception, Keep watching the blog for news and if you have any guesses on what you think will be included in the upcoming season’s line, I’m all ears :-)

Simple Tweaks to Fix a Touchy Touchpad

I actually sat down to write on another tip for this post when a few accidental bumps of my touchpad changed my mind about today’s topic. There’s nothing more annoying than a temperamental touchpad.  Accidentally tapping your touchpad while typing can scatter your thoughts all over the word doc or comment box you’re working in – leaving you with the ominous task of putting all the pieces back together as you had originally intended.
So in today’s quick tip, I’ve compiled a simple change to your touchpad’s settings that can go a long way in making your life a lot less frustrating – and your touchpad a lot less touchy.
UPDATE 1: (Step-by-step instructions for VAIO models using the Synaptics Touchpad Driver)
  1. In Windows 7 click Start then Control Panel
  2. Within the Control Panel click Hardware and Sound
  3. In the window that appears, under the “Devices and Printers” catagory, select Mouse
  4. In the setting window that appears, click the Device Settings tab
  5. From the Device Settings tab, click the Settings button that appears halfway down
  6. In the new window that appears, examine the index of settings that appears in the left panel and expand the option labeled Pointing
  7. Click Touch Sensitivity (A)
  8. Reduce the touch sensitivity setting by moving the slide to the right, towards the Heavy Touch label.
    • Experiment with different levels of sensitivity until you find one suited for to your needs and how you type
  9. You can also reduce touch sensitivity by adjusting the Palm Check (A) setting towards Maximum (B)
    • This feature guards against operating the touch pad with your palm, as you might do while typing
    • This option will increase or decrease this feature’s ability to detect when you palm is touching the touch pad (vs. your finger)
*If the Device Settings tab is missing from your mouse settings window, you’ll need to re-install the touch pad driver from eSupport here.
Have a better tip?  Be sure to share yours in the comment section below.
UPDATE 2: After reading many of your comments, I realized I forgot to include step-by-step instructions for the alternate touchpad driver used on many other VAIO models.  You can find instructions below.  I hope this helps!  Please be sure to leave any additional feedback or follow up questions below.
(Step-by-step instructions for VAIO models using the Alps Pointing Device Driver)
  1. In Windows 7 click Start then Control Panel
  2. Within the Control Panel click Hardware and Sound
  3. In the window that appears, under the “Devices and Printers” catagory, select Mouse
  4. In the setting window that appears, click the Tapping tab
  5. From the Tapping tab, select Tap off when typing (A) and move the Delay after last key is hit sliderall the way to the right towards Long (B)
    • Note: if you prefer, you could also turn off the tapping feature of the touchpad; relegating the “click” function of the touchpad to just the left and right buttons hardware buttons found directly below the touchpad.
    • To do this, simply “deselect” the Tapping option (C) found at the top left-hand corner of the Tapping Tab then click Apply
  6. You can also reduce touch sensitivity by enabling the Palm Detection feature (similar to the Palm Check setting describe above)
    • This feature guards against operating the touch pad with your palm, as you might do while typing
    • To toggle on or off, navigate to the Palm and Typing tab within the same Mouse Properties window
    • Select or deselect the Enable palm rejection setting (A)
  7. You can also experiment with Invalidating Multi-touch Gestures While Typing and Invalidating Mouse Cursor Movement While Typing settings (B).
    • These settings can be found within the same tab outlined in Line 6

The video, posted to YouTube, shows off a man and his son bonding through a camping endeavor.

Of course, Google Apps and some Wi-Fi help the bonding process.

Qualcomm launches expensive quad-core dev tablet

Qualcomm launches expensive quad-core dev tablet Qualcomm has decided to get into the tablet hardware market.
The company's new branded tablet was developed for the developer community, and its specs show why.

Running on a quad-core Snapdragon APQ8064 at 1.5GHz, the tablet has a 10.1-inch display, WXGAresolution and an Adreno 320 GPU. The processor had not been in any other hardware before now.

Furthermore, the tablet has a 13MP camera with flash and LTE support. Out of the box, the tablet will run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, but should be upgradeable to the smoother Jelly Bean 4.1 in the near future.

Besides the tablet, buyers will also get a full docking station and any cables they need.

If you are a developer and interested, it looks like the console will lighten your wallet to the tune of $1300.

Review: Sony Tablet P

 http://www.techmagnifier.com/Admin/Prod-Images/LargeImage/Sony%20Tablet%20P%20(1).jpg
Video playback can be split between the two screens or assigned just to the one on top. Since the lower screen stays on the whole time, the battery tends to drain out rather quickly. Despite a 3,080 mAH battery, the maximum you can squeeze out of this beast is about 6 hours and that's with controlled brightness levels and browsing the web. The device took quite a long time to change orientation from landscape to portrait mode. We kept flipping it around to see if we got it right and that was very frustrating.

Sony's attempt to modify Android Honeycomb 3.2, has affected the usability of the device. The UI seemed sluggish while dragging icons between screens. The audio of the loudspeaker isn't that great and this comes as a shocker for a Sony product. You'll often find yourself reaching for your headphones.

The device works on both 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity. However, at times, it had troubles connecting to the Wi-Fi, though 3G worked just fine. What did impress us was the browser which was very smooth and the fact that apps loaded rather quickly. The tablet is also DLNA compatible to help stream digital content on a much bigger screen.
Compact clamshell design
Sharp display
DLNA support
Access to PS1 game titles

Cons
Split screen causes hindrances
Poor Wi-Fi connectivity
Poor speaker audio quality
Doesn't charge via USB

Microsoft Surface: Review

The removable cover comes across as a takeoff of Apple Inc.'s Smart Cover. Both snap into place perfectly with magnets. But instead of sporting foldable sections, Microsoft's cover is rigidly flat and has a full keyboard imprinted on it. Microsoft's cover seems central to the Surface experience, although it's not clear if it'll be sold separately. Apple sells Smart Cover separately starting at $39.
The cover is thin - about a tenth of an inch, or 3 millimeters. When covering the screen, its spine covers one edge and its outer fabric makes the whole package feel like a soft book. Where it attaches to the tablet, it's completely floppy, so it can be whipped around to close over the screen or folded back like a magazine.
surfacebig.jpg
The keyboard is imprinted on the inside of the cover, facing the screen. So when you open it, you can lay the cover on a table and use it to type. The letters are separated by little ridges, allowing you to feel around somewhat as you type. I have found that typing doesn't feel right on the iPad's glass.
The keyboard is covered with synthetic material that feels like a tennis racket handle or a high school running track, but not as grippy.
The keys themselves don't depress as you type. Rather, there are seven layers of metal and other material inside that sense pressure and speed. When the cover is folded open entirely, covering the back, the keys stop being sensitive to touch.
Demonstrators from Microsoft told us they could type upwards of 50 words per minute, but I didn't have access to the device long enough to test my ability to input "The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog."
There was another keyboard accessory with depressible keys that was 5.5 millimeters thick, or nearly twice the regular cover. It felt more comfortable for typing but didn't seem revolutionary. You can also type on the screen, the way you can on an iPad.
Microsoft's upcoming Windows 8 operating system and its Windows RT counterpart for low-power chips are supposed to bridge the gap between touch devices and personal computers.

iBall Slide i7218 review

slide-1.jpg
iBall had launched a tablet device in September 2011 and now the company has launched a revamped version of its Slide with i7218. The newer version of the device runs on Android 2.3 though the user interface is similar to Honeycomb. The i7218 is cheaper than its predecessor, as it comes with the price tag of Rs. 11,999 and will be competing with the likes of Reliance Tab 3G. When switched on, the device greets you with "Get ready to enjoy the ride", so let's try and find out how is the ride of the new iBall Slide i7218.
Hardware/ Design
In terms of design, the 7-inch tablet is made primarily of plastic and has a metal-based side casing. Unlike the previous model's box like design, this one has a curved and lighter body. At the back is a 2.0 MP camera, with the speakers. The front has a VGA camera on the top and three capacitive touch control buttons on the right.
On the right side, is a Micro-USB port, a mini HDMI port, a USB port, 3.5 mm headphone jack and an external slot for a microSD card. The top panel also houses a power button, volume control and a reset button. The device is loaded with a 1 GHz ARM Cortex Processor. The USB port can be used to connect dongle or an external flash drive. Overall the design and hardware is apt for the purpose, price and usage of this tablet.
slide-2.jpgThe budget Android tablets market is currently exploding in India and there seems to be a new tablet being announced almost every month. In such a scenario, it will be difficult for iBall to create a market for itself with Slide i7218. The strengths of this tablet are that it has a well-rounded design and comes with a Honeycomb like UI on board, unlike the other Android tablets in this price range that are purely Gingerbread. However, with the performance lags and poor touch response this is not the tablet that you would want to lay your hands on.
Price: Rs. 11,999

Pros
  • Design

Cons
  • Poor touch screen response
  • Persistent lag
  • Cramped keyboard

Apple's new iPad - Review: The best tablet money can buy

new-ipad-review.jpg
The iPad is the kind of product that doesn't come around very often. Like Xerox, Walkman and, more recently, the iPod, it's when a particular product sees so much success that it becomes synonymous with the entire category. Less than two years after its launch, the iPad is already a category-defining product.

Not sure what we mean? Here's an anecdote. Only the other day someone walked into our office and popped the question - "Should I buy Motorola's iPad?" Hint: they were referring to the Motorola Xoom.

Back to Apple's iPad. The new iPad - yes, that's what it's called, not iPad 3 - more on that later - builds on the incredible success of its predecessors. Rather than offering something radically different, the new iPad retains the familiar and throws in some compelling upgrades.

Pros

  • Stunning display
  • Battery life
  • Cameras
  • Apps

Cons
  • Wi-Fi+4G option slightly overpriced
  • 4G option not compliant with Indian network(s)

Price: Between Rs. 30,500 and Rs. 50,900.

Google unveils Nexus 7 tab

Google's Cheryl Pon demonstrates the new Google Nexus 7 tablet at the Google I/O conference in San Francisco, on WednesdayJune.

Google made its long—awaited debut into the tablet wars on Wednesday, unveiling the Nexus 7 to compete with Apple’s dominant iPad as well as the recently announced Microsoft Surface.
The Nexus 7, developed in conjunction with Asus, features a 7—inch (17.8—centimetre) screen, making it smaller but more portable and lighter than its main competitors, which both feature screens of about 10 inches (25 centimetres). That places it in direct competition with Amazon’s Kindle Fire tablet, which is by far the most successful running on Google’s Android operating system.
The Nexus 7 goes on sale for $199 effective immediately on Google’s online store Google Play, with delivery starting in the U.S., Britain, Canada and Australia in mid—July, Google said. That makes it far more affordable than Apple’s cheapest iPad, the older model iPad 2, which sells for $399.
The Nexus 7 weighs just 340 grams, features an Nvidia Tegra quad core processor and a battery allowing for up to nine hours of video play on its 1280x800 pixel screen, or 300 hours of standby. It ships with Google’s popular Chrome browser as the default programme for surfing the web. It also features Google Now, a refinement of Google’s search service that provides personal information gleaned from your Google history, rather than mere internet links.
Android upgraded
Google unveiled the device at its developers conference in San Francisco, where the company gave details of its latest version of Android, nicknamed Jelly Bean, which improves major components such as touch, search, notifications and Google Maps.
Also revealed at the conference was the Google Q, a home entertainment hub that streams movies, music and other content, designed to compete with Apple TV and other entertainment hubs.
Google said some 1 million Android devices are newly activated around the world every day, with 400 million Android devices now in use.
In another mark of the rocketing popularity of Google’s mobile operating system, Google said that its online store now boasts more than 600,000 apps, with 1.5 billion apps downloaded by users every day.

Micromax Funbook ready to provide

Available at Rs.6,499, Micromax Funbook is the slimmest budget ICS tablet available in market. The tablet is designed and manufactured in India, and does not sport a Made in China logo at the rear. The company has tied up with some leading names in the education sector to provide educational content on the Funbook.

The funbook has a grey plastic back with a matte finish and the screen has a black glossy border making it a fingerprint and dust magnet.

The front of the device houses the 7-inch display that boasts of a resolution of 480x800. The front also has the 0.3MP camera and three physical buttons at back, home and menu. Running ICS, the tablet doesn't really need physical buttons as these functions can be accessed directly through the ICS UI.

The tablet runs on Android 4.0 and has a front VGA camera with 4GB memory, expandable up to 32GB. The 350-gm tablet is powered by ARM Cortex A8 1.2GHz processor with a Mali 400 GPU and comes with 512MB RAM. The specs are enough to let the Funbook perform routine tasks. However, the display isn't all that bright and illegible in sunlight.

Gadget and Gizmos reviews the Micromax tablet and says the physical keys on the Funbook are easy to use in Landscape mode, but the same become a pain when used in the portrait mode. You have no option but to stick to the onscreen key in the latter.

The build of the device may not be the best when compared with other products available in the market but it is impressive nonetheless. It also comes with a mini USB to full USB adaptor enabling the device to connect to a 3G dongle to connect to the Internet.

Google tablet confirmed by Asus

Google has launched its first tablet computer, marking the opening skirmishes in its battle with Apple’s popular iPad.
The co-branded, $199, device, to be released in San Francisco at Google’s I/O conference, is likely to compete with the Kindle Fire, which also retails for $199 in America.
Gartner research suggests the tablet market may grow to nearly 120million units this year.
Amazon uses the Kindle Fire to encourage users to buy books, music and video, while existing Google tablets have tried to challenge the iPad.
An Asus executive told Reuters the new tablet was building on the success of cheaper devices. “It's targeting Amazon. The Kindle is based on Google's platform but with its own service, so Google has to launch its own service, too," said the executive.
Google has its own store for apps called Google Play, but does not have anything like Amazon's service. The new tablet is expected to run Jelly Bean, an update to the Android operating system that is only expected to make minor changes.
Bloomberg earlier reported that Google would launch a tablet at its developer conference this week, taking direct aim at Apple Inc's iPad, citing two people familiar with the matter. One of the sources said the 7-inch tablet would showcase new features of Android.
Price, specifications or launch timetable have not yet been confirmed. Google declined to comment.
Apple's iPad had a 68 per cent share of the market in January-March, according to data from IDC. Amazon had a little over 4 per cent, lagging Samsung Electronics and Lenovo. Microsoft last week introduced its own line of tablet computers, marking a major strategic shift for the software giant as it struggles to compete with Apple and re-invent its aging Windows franchise.
Google has previously worked with hardware manufacturers HTC and Samsung to produce co-branded Android mobile phones under the Nexus brand. This would be its first such tablet device.
Commentators remained sceptical about Google’s chances, however. “When you look at the tablet market, you have iPad - and others,” said Rhoda Alexander, an analyst at industry researcher IHS iSuppli. “Everybody is trying to figure out how to compete against the iPad. And I just see it as just one more experiment going down that road.”
Gartner expects the iPad to remain the global tablet leader until at least 2016, even as it loses some market share. The iPad will account for an estimated 46 per cent of shipments in 2016, down from a projected 61 per cent this year. Android may have 37 per cent by 2016, a gain from 32 per cent. Microsoft, which had zero per cent of the tablet market last year, is expected to capture 12 per cent by 2016.
At last year's conference Google's announcements included Google Music, its streaming music service, the Ice Cream Sandwich update to Android and Chromebooks - Google's range of laptop computers running its Chrome operating system.
However, products announced at Google I/O have not always been hits. The 2009 conference saw the debut of Google Wave, a collaboration tool that the search company eventually closed earlier this year.
A year later the company unveiled Google TV, its apps driven television platform. Google TV has struggled in the US, where the interface has undergone several redesigns. A Sony-branded Google TV set-top box will launch in Britain next month.

Samsung Galaxy 10.1

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1

The tablet revolution has brought numerous amazing tablets this year. Almost every handset manufacturer has jumped into the tablet war. We have seen some new launches and some upgrades in tablets in 2011. But, one tablet that outshines all is Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.

Way before its official launch, Samsung Galaxy tab 10.1 was announced as the best iPad alternative tablet by many technology experts.

The amazing performance of Galaxy Tab 10.1 made everyone accept the predictions of technology experts that Galaxy tab is the ultimate tab that is loaded with almost everything in it. Galaxy tab 10.1 is same as Galaxy Tab 750. In USA, Samsung launched it as Galaxy Tab 10.1. While they named it as Galaxy Tab 750 in India.

With the release of the iPad 2 in first quarter of 2011, Apple gave stiff competition to Samsung's original 7 inch tablet. In response of the tough competition, Samsung launched its new Galaxy 10.1 inch tab to hold a strong hand in the tablet market.

However, with evident shake-up from the Galaxy 10.1, Apple filed injunctions and other legal filings to stop the sale of the Galaxy Tab 10.1. Apple has won a ruling in Germany, which has caused the Galaxy Tab 10.1 to be removed from store shelves across the European Union. Yet, it has lost its appeal in Australia to ban the Galaxy tab over a patent issue.

Amid all the negative news about the Galaxy tab, it continues to drive sales and business partnerships. Samsung has sealed many business-to-business partnerships in industries including transportation, logistics, education, and consumer goods and services.

Recently, American Airlines announced the deployment of 6,000 of the new Galaxy Tab 10.1 devices onboard select flights. The tablet is replacing the airline's current personal entertainment device in American's premium cabins on various transcontinental flights. Also, the University of Southern Mississippi also offering Galaxy Tab 10.1 mobile tablets, loaded with Blackboard Mobile Learn, to students participating in an Honors College pilot program.

Size wise the 10.1 inch Samsung is very compact, even relative to the new thinner iPad 2, its only 8.6mm thick, 0.2mm slimmer than the already slim Apple slate. It also weighs in lighter at 565g to the iPad 2's 607g, making it a little lighter even though it is notably taller than the Apple iPad 2.

The Samsung tab is powered with dual-core 1GHz processor (Cortex-A9 processor, ULP GeForce GPU, Tegra 2 T20 chipset) and has a larger screen, with a 10.1 inch 16:10 version displaying LCD images on a 1200×800 resolution.

Loaded with Android 3.1, Galaxy 10.1is an excellent gadget for multitasking, the new OS, also referred as Honeycomb allows the use of Adobe Flash. Memory wise Galaxy Tab can be upgraded by micro SD by up to 32GB which offers certain flexibility that its rival iPad 2 doesn't provide.

Galaxy 10.1 also beats other tablets in terms of add-ons. With wider range and reasonably priced accessories Galaxy can be termed as tablet of the year.
